Spring Concert (click for more info)

April 15, 2023

FREE! 7:00 pm
Please join the Beaver Dam Area Orchestra (BDAO), directed by Erin Ebersole, for their last concert of the season. Local celebrity Mike Throndsen will be narrating CASEY AT THE BAT, based on the well-loved poem by Ernest Thayer. There will be something for everyone at this concert including Danzas Cubanas, Over the Rainbow, Selection from Jesus Christ Superstar, and others.

First written for The San Francisco Examiner in 1888, the poem “Casey at the Bat”, by Ernest Thayer, has become one of the best-known poems in American literature. The poem depicts a baseball team from the fictional town of “Mudville”. They are losing by two runs in the last inning and fans believe they can win if only Casey, Mudville’s star player, gets to bat. Casey does get his chance, but will his overconfidence win the game or send the crowd home unhappy?

This musical version of the famous story was commissioned by the Dallas Symphony and was given its first performance by that ensemble in 2001, with Pat Sajak serving as narrator. Mike Throndsen, sports announcer with Daily Dodge, will be narrating for the Beaver Dam Area Orchestra at their spring concert on Saturday, April 15 at 7:00 pm. See the FREE performance at the Beaver Dam High School Auditorium, located at 500 Gould St. Sponsors for this event include A.M. Kiwanis of Beaver Dam, Sue Gutknecht, and the Donald and Eunice Noltner Memorial Fund.
